Kerċem Ajax only managed a 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Sannat Lions to qualify for the Championship Pool as the fourth-placed team in the standings at the end of the second round.

The Ajax dictated matters for most of the match and looked on their way to victory and three priceless points when they opened the score on 22 minutes through a header by Anderson Ribeiro from a Petar Kyumyurdzhiev free-kick.

Until the break, Kerċem could have added more goals but a series fine saves from Sannat goalkeeper Angelo Brignoli stop-ped them from extending their lead.

Kerċem lifted their foot off the pedal after the break and on 57 minutes Sannat’s Justin Agius levelled the scores from a corner action.

Kerċem created several opportunities to regain their lead through Ribeiro, Jean Paul Mizzi and Kyumyurdzhiev but Sannat could have clinched the points had Mark Muscat and substitutes Eric Gauci and Kenneth Bonnici been more accurate in their conclusions.

The second round came to a close with the match between Oratory Youths and St Lawrence Spurs.

Oratory won the contest 4-1 to end a negative patch and leapfrog the Spurs in the First Division standings.

St Lawrence had regular players William Barbosa, Cedric Sciberras, Louis Buttigieg and Jonathan Micallef unavailable as Oratory practically paved the way to the victory with three goals in the first 30 minutes.

Thiago Dos Santos opened the score with a low drive and Mark Camilleri doubled Oratory’s lead with a tap-in following a low cross by Dos Santos.

Brazilian striker Dos Santos crowned an excellent performance with a spectacular strike on 24 minutes following a cross by Camilleri to hand his team a three-goal lead.

St Lawrence’s went very close to pull one back after the break but a header by Christopher Cauchi hit the crossbar.

Oratory then added a fourth goal through Camilleri and on 89 minutes St Lawrence scored a deserved consolation goal when Mambaye Boye hit home to conclude a move started by Matthias Uzor.

Division Two

Second-placed Munxar Falcons failed to close the gap with leaders Għajnsielem to three points as they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Żebbuġ Rovers.

Munxar conceded an early Manwel Cordina goal and were reduced to ten players two minutes before half-time when Gary Hili was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Falcons still tried to save the match after the half-time interval but conceded extra space inside their own half and the Rovers made the most of the situation, hitting three other goals from quick counter attacks through substitute Omar Calleja on 74 minutes, Samuel Muscat four minutes from time and Manwel Cordina in time added on.

In another match Xagħra United and Qala Saints shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Daniel Bartolo missed a penalty for Xagħra early on when blasting wide from the spot and the Blues then conceded two goals scored by Josef Galea (35) and substitute Alan Cini (50).

Xagħra recovered from a difficult moment though and saved the result with goals from Steve Sultana (55) and Joseph Buhagiar (72).
