Q: I have a defective freezer which is still covered by a three-year parts and labour guarantee. Since I reported the problem, more than a month ago, the seller is still trying to figure out the problem and repair it. How long do I have to wait for the repair to be carried out? Am I entitled to a replacement?
A: If the freezer was purchased less than two years ago and the seller does not manage to resolve the problem within a reasonable period of time, the law entitles you to ask for a replacement.
If, on the other hand, the legal two-year guarantee has expired, the only guarantee you have at your disposition is the commercial guarantee given by the seller.
Since this guarantee only provides for parts and labour, the seller may keep opting for repair. You are, however, entitled to an extension of the guarantee for the period of time the freezer was faulty and was being repaired by the seller.
