The President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, on Saturday 6th December officially inaugurated the sixth edition of Bethlehem in Għajnsielem. The inauguration, which was also broadcasted live on national TV began with an explanation of life in Bethlehem more than two thousand years ago. This narration was musically accompanied by the band of Saint Joseph, whilst the actors that are at the heart of this activity started to take place in various rooms of Bethlehem.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that such an activity shows the cohesive unity of the Għajnsielem community; the NGOs, the Church, the Local Council and the civil authorities.

The President said she was honoured to have been invited to inaugurate this activity, and together with the guests share the true meaning of Christmas. She also spoke about how Christmastime is an opportunity for the Maltese and Gozitan people not to lose sight of the values which were passed down from past generations and to look at all those who aren’t able to celebrate the festive season and to show them love.

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca also appealed to the general public not to forget, in this special time, those who are burdened with cancer and other diseases by helping the Malta Community Chest Fund so that this organisation can continue to fulfil its duty and continue assisting those in need of care.

After the speech, the President visited the attraction with the Project Manager, Mr. Franco Ciangura, together with the Chairman of Christmas in Gozo, Mr Mifsud. During this activity, the President of Malta was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Edgar Preca, together with the Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo, and Parliamentary Secretary for local councils, Stefan Buontempo.
