A car which blocked the St Luke's Hospital helipad in August was being used by an employee of Malta Industrial Parks, who was subsequently suspended from work for a week, it was revealed by Malta Enterprise today.

ME gave details in a statement in which it also said it would sue The Malta Independent for libel after a story last Sunday.

The corporation insisted that the driver was not any one of its senior officials.

“The car in question was a grey Ford Focus, plate number LCF 606. It was not a Malta Enterprise but was leased by Malta Industrial Parks Ltd for the general use of its employees."

MIP took disciplinary action against the employee responsible for leaving the car there the day before the incident.

A charge was issued and he was suspended from work for a week.

Given the ongoing magisterial inquiry, MIP not to publish any details pending the conclusion of the inquiry, Malta Enterprise said.

“At no point was any attempt made to cover-up any fact or responsibility. ME and MIP employees were asked to testify in the process of the magisterial inquiry and they did so under oath. Any statement or suggestion to the contrary is plainly a lie,” ME said.

It said it was regretful that the incident was turned into a political affair.

"It is clearly an attempt to tarnish the reputation of ME and its employees regardless of their political views. It is an attempt to undermine the credibility of an agency that is successfully promoting investment, employment and economic growth."
