Siġġiewi put up a strong second-half showing to upset Żurrieq and reach the Last 16 of the FA Trophy.

Forwards Stephane Tape and Francois Guihard were the architechts behind Siġġiewi’s stunning victory with the former bagging a hat-trick while the latter carved many openings in the Żurrieq defence besides putting his name on the scoresheet.

The first half was evenly-balanced with Siġġiewi going close early on when Guihard’s shot finished just wide following some good work by Tape.

But it was Żurrieq who struck first after five minutes when Osi Lucky Agboebina hit home from a Stephen Wellman delivery.

Siġġiewi took just one minute to draw level when Tape slotted the ball into the net following a fine move by Guihard.

Żurrieq continued to enjoy most of the possession but four minutes before the break Siġġiewi went ahead when Tape hit a shot past Alden.

Żurrieq managed to go into the half-time interval on level terms as on the stroke of half-time Wellman headed home from a Matthew Schembri corner.

Siġġiewi looked a transformed side on the restart and on 56 minutes Tape completed his hat-trick from routine distance.

The Division Two side made it 4-2 on 63 minutes when Guihard bundled the ball home after Alden failed to hold onto Eman Ciappara’s shot.

Żurrieq looked dead and buried and Buhagiar sealed his team’s qualification when he scored directly from a free-kick.
