Qormi won a penalty corner after just four minutes and Young Stars’ Andrew Camilleri cleared off the line in extremis.

Four minutes later, a well-orchestrated move saw Kyle Micallef push home to give Qormi a 1-0 lead. They continued to dominate with Young Stars counter-attacking, until a a penalty corner for the latter, in the 21st minute, forced Qormi custodian Ramon Chircop into a diving save.

A minute later, Young Stars were awarded another penalty corner and Mark Camilleri netted to level the scores. A 32nd-minute penalty corner saw Qormi regain the lead, Juan Sarcia’s effort taking a deflection off the Young Stars keeper’s gloves.

On 40 minutes, John Williams shot Qormi 3-1 ahead after pouncing on a rebound.

Young Stars goalkeeper James Mizzi made two fine saves around the 50th minute mark but he was well beaten four minutes later by Micallef who went on to clinch his hat-trick in the 64th minute.

After a studious opening 10 minutes, the game sprung to life when Julian Zahra scored to put the Hotsticks 1-0 ahead.

Hotsticks stayed in control but were unable to extend their lead after failing to make the most of three penalty corners.

The second half was played out with Hotsticks continually on the attack and in the 40th minute, David Agius, of White Hart, prevented a certain goal when he cleared a shot off the line from point blank.

Hotsticks maintained their pressure but struggled to turn their dominance into goals despite winning four penalty corners in the following 10 minutes.

The situation changed in the 50th minute when Ryan Dalli netted to double Hotsticks’ lead.

After White Hart spurned a chance four minutes later, Lukas Plaehn fired in goal number three for Hotsticks in the 61st minute.
