Recently, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat thanked the previous PN administration for work carried out that led to Malta gaining the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture 2018.

Referring to Valletta 2018 in itself incorporates the Renzo Piano Project, amply criticised by the Labour Party in Opposition. One hopes there has been a change of heart since then in this regard and due credit will continue to be given to the principal protagonist – former prime minister Lawrence Gonzi – in the decision that led to the implementation of this long-awaited regeneration of the city ‘built by gentlemen for gentlemen’.

While keeping in mind that achievements by leading politicians and statesmen in the interest of their country can never be eradicated from historical reality, it is only ethical to demonstrate publicly due respect, as is, after all, demanded by protocol.
