The item on the proposed fixed-wing airfield in Gozo has started a rush of e-mails between supporters of the project. It is good news that the Water Services Corporation’s plans to renew the outfall sewer will take into account the possibility of an airstrip for general aviation and training.

During a meeting in March this year that was held at the Gozo Ministry, business and tourism representatives were advised that a plan would be in place by September.

While no details of these plans have been announced, the Gozo airfield supporters wish to advise readers that their own proposals have always taken into account the need for a new outfall. Our suggestions had this placed alongside the site of the proposed runway in order to allow emergency access and for maintenance.

We also suggested that all rainwater falling on the airstrip site be gathered into a large underground reservoir under the leisure and picnic amenities on the site. These details are shown on the plan above.

I sincerely hope that my comments are seen as positive and will eventually lead to the needs of private aircraft owners in Europe and flying schools in Malta being fulfilled.

I am only proposing a facility that will accept aircraft carrying up to 19 passengers, not an alternative airport for low-cost commercial airlines.
