With reference to the letter by Diane Taylor about the Malta railway, I wish to inform her that there was a railway in Malta which, from 1883 to 1931, operated between Valletta and Mtarfa, a distance of about 11 miles.

Up to 1900, the route was Valletta, Ħamrun, Birkirkara, Attard and Rabat and it was then extended to Mtarfa.

Naturally, the main reason for its closure was the introduction of the buses in 1919, which spread all over the islands within a few years.

The correspondent is invited to visit my exhibition on the Malta railway on her next visit to the island. The exhibition includes models of all the station buildings that were used in Malta during the days of the railway.
