Times of Malta editor-in-chief Steve Mallia took on Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s ALS ice bucket challenge on the steps of Castille this afternoon.
He nominated Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna, the Prime Minister’s wife Michelle, and tenor Joseph Calleja.
Head of News Ariadne Massa tipped the bucket of icy water over his head; a gesture he reciprocated after she was nominated by Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi.
She nominated blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia, The Malta Independent content director Pierre Portelli and re-challenged Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil, who jokingly said he ran out of ice after the blackout and avoided the cold shower.
The teeth-chattering craze, which has gone viral across the world, is intended to raise money for the ALS Association.
ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a disease in the nervous system, which causes muscle weakness and impacts physical function. It cannot be cured and eventually leads to death.
Once a person is challenged, he or she has 24 hours to take up the challenge and to nominate another three people.
Thanks to the #icebucketchallenge more than $62.5 million have been raised in less than a month.
