A strategic leadership board for the Gozo General Hospital has been appointed for the first time to act as a link between the hospital management team and the Secretariat for Health.
The appointment was made by Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne.
The board is chaired by Dr Franco Mercieca, a Labour MP and ophthalmologist who until recently was Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly. He had been strongly criticised for continuing to perform surgery while serving as parliamentary secretary.
Dr Fearne, attended the first meeting of the board during which a number of issues where discussed. He outlined his vision for the Gozo General Hospital and reiterated that services offered by the Gozo General Hospital have to be of the same level as those offered in Malta.
The strategic leadership board will be meeting on a regular basis and is set to pave the ground for the present and future needs of the Gozo General Hospital ensuring the patient remains at the centre of the care provided, the secretariat said.
