A couple of weeks ago I was with some friends at Għadira beach when an elderly couple arrived carrying their own umbrella and deck chairs. However, they were moved along by the owners of the sunshades already established in that part of the beach.

I found this to be disgraceful as I was under the impression that this beach, at least, was not under the private ownership of any hotel. But it does seem that, once again, those who have the money can do and say whatever they like.

There is too much of this going on today. There ought to be a section of the beach, and I don’t mean a minimal amount, where one can come and sit and put down one’s own sunshade and deck chairs without someone hassling you for money.

Yes, I know some will argue that it is easier to hire a sunshade for the day than to carry all that around, but some would like the choice.

Can the people please be given their choices, as it seems the only one they have today is take it or leave it.
