Several summer bus services were announced by the public transport operator yesterday, three weeks after the schedule was meant to come in force.

Malta Public Transport Services, a State company, said the new services would cater for the increased demand.

The company said services include extensions to current routes, shuttle services for a number of localities, night services at the weekend and the deployment of additional buses in “a flexible and frequent way to meet increases in demands on various routes”.

Some of the extensions to the bus service have already started operating, including those to routes 101 and 102, which now also serve Għajn Tuffieħa, Mġarr and Ġnejna.

Route X3 connecting the airport to Buġibba has been extended to cater for demand later at night, with a trip departing at 10.35pm.

Shuttle services include route 3A, which connects Kalkara strand to Rinella and Smart City, and route 37A with hourly conenctions between Ċirkewwa, Armier and Għadira Bay.

From tomorrow night bus services will be introduced from St Julian’s to various localities around Malta.

The company said the full summer schedule will come into force when pending issues with the General Workers’ Union are ironed out.
