A little less action and more serious drama is in Devil’s Knot, in which Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon star as a private investigator and a mother caught up in the true events of the brutal murder of three eight-year-old boys. Wearing his director’s hat, Clint Eastwood also tackles a true-life story, in musical form, however, as he traces the origins of the 1960s iconic rock band The Four Seasons in Jersey Boys.

Another musically-tinged story is Begin Again, starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo as a budding singer and record producer respectively who bond over their passion for music in New York.

On the comedy spectrum Jon Favreau writes, produces, directs and stars in Chef; as a the titular chef who quits his job in a prominent LA restaurant over creative differences with his overbearing boss – and sets up a touring food truck with his best friend and son.

Melissa McCarthy continues to bring in the laughs in Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie is a big-screen version of the UK smash TV comedy starring Brendan O’Carroll.

Younger kids will be well-served by Earth to Echo, in which a group of best friends inexplicably begin to receive strange encoded messages on their mobile phones.

The animated The House of Magic features the voices of Emily Blunt and Cinda Adams while horror aficionados can scare their insides out with Oculus.

The Purge: Anarchy traces the misadventures of a couple caught in the middle of the so-called ‘purge’, including murder.

These titles will hit our cinemas throughout July.
