The Junior College Department of English has been awarded the British Council 2014 Innovation in Assessment Prize in recognition of its work on the design and implementation of the Advanced English-speaking exam.

The department beat stiff competition from a number of international contenders for the prestigious prize.

This high-stakes exam was designed by a group of teachers who used their knowledge of assessment, the learning context, and the student cohort to build upon the syllabus guidelines.

The team included Daniel Xerri, Patricia Vella Briffa, Andrew Farrugia, Clyde Borg, Odette Vassallo, Joseph Gerardi, Stephanie Xerri Agius, Etienne Zammit and Charles Sammut.

The award will be presented at the ELTons ceremony in London on May 22.
