Birkirkara will have to beat Hibernians in a decider next Friday in their bid to make it three women’s league titles in a row after both sides finished the competition equal on points at the top of the standings.

In their last matches of the championship earlier this week, Birkirkara beat third-placed team Mġarr United 2-1 and the Paola girls trounced second-bottom side Pembroke Athleta 7-0.

Both championship contenders finished on 48 points from 18 matches after 16 wins and two losses each.

The title match will be played on Friday at the Centenary Stadium, starting at 7pm.

In the last league clash between Birkirkara and Hibernians, the Stripes prevailed handsomely after beating their rivals with an emphatic 5-0 scoreline at the Mosta ground.

On that occasion Rachel Cuschieri scored twice and the other goals for Birkirkara came from Kelly Agius Pace, Gabriella Zahra and Raina Giusti.

Meanwhile, the two KO semi-finals, originally scheduled for next Friday, will now be played at the Centenary Stadium, on Monday.

Hibernians start favourites to eliminate Kirkop United at 6pm but Birkirkara will have to fight harder after being paired with Mġarr in the other last-four tie, starting at 8pm.

The cup final will be played on May 16.
