The Home Affairs Ministry has appointed an inquiry board to investigate incidents that took place following riots at Lyster Barracks in Hal Far on Tuesday.

Development and Policy Implementation director general Joseph St John is board chairman. The other members are the deputy head of the Civil Protection Department John Agius and the assistant director of the prisons Kevin Borg. Nadia Mifsud is board secretary.

The board has been requested to establish the sequence of events, determine what intervention took place by the forces of law and order, confirm whether immigrants and/or members of the forces of law and order were injured and what injuries they suffered, give an opinion on what could have led to the incidents and make suggestions of how similar situations could be avoided in future.

The board members have been requested to visit the centre and interview immigrants, officials, agencies, organisations and journalists who could assist them in the drawing up of a report which should be presented to the minister within 15 days.
