A call for proposals for a contemporary artistic design to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Republic has been issued by the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with Heritage Malta.

Heritage Malta will be administering the project submissions which will be open until April 25.

The call does not specify a site for the project with artistic parameters being left open intentionally to encourage more creative forms. The chosen project should consider the local and cultural artistic context.

The project is expected to be launched in December when Malta celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Republic.

Malta became a constitutional republic in 1974 with Sir Anthony Mamo its first president. The most common visual in the collective memory of the Maltese was the coat of arms of a Republic Malta, introduced in 1974, and which remained a symbol of the republic to date.
