Since 2009, the School of Education at the University of Sheffield has been working with its local partner St Catherine’s High School, Pembroke, to offer high quality Masters and PhD programmes.

Malta-based students study with academic staff from the University of Sheffield at specially-developed weekend study schools. Masters students attend five weekend study schools over two years and doctorate students attend three study schools a year for a minimum of four years.

Masters students focus on three broad fields of study: early childhood education; educational studies, and languages many benefitting from Scholarships from the Malta Government.

Masters students include learning support assistants, kindergarten assistants, primary school teachers, heads of schools and administrators, nurse educators etc.

Students on doctorate programmes work on a range of research projects including: assessment, technology, literacy, the arts, mental health, language learning, inclusion, educators’ identities and curriculum.

Students are matched with a member of the academic team from Sheffield according to their field of study.

This is what the graduates say:

“All my assignments dealt with a different aspect and this has broadened my  horizons, my way of thinking.  This course has helped me....manage my time and belief in myself. The study weekends were something to look forward to.”

“...it was a pleasure studying at University of Sheffield with such a supportive team. Thank you for all your guidance and constant support throughout these two years.”
