On the feast day of St Cecilia – November 22 – a musical literary evening programme delighted an audience that filled the beautifully restored chapel in Għajnsielem dedicated to the patron saint of music.

The event also served as a showcase of the talents of various young, up-and-coming artists including Kathryn Mizzi (violin), Andrew Gatt, Christian Saliba, Antonella Portelli (soprano), Chantelle Mercieca (flute), Joseph Grima (treble) and Joseph Pace (baritone) to play their respective instrument, sing or read their own poems and texts, all related to St Cecilia and music.

The musical selection included classics such as Amazing Grace, hymns of praise such as Sing to Him and old local favourites such as Inti Djamant. The artistic director was Rosabelle Pavia, while Terry Shaw provided the piano accompaniment.

This was the second year that the event was organised by Wirt Għawdex, which plans to keep up this annual tradition of honouring St Cecilia at the only chapel in the Maltese islands dedicated to her.
