As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Actavis has supported all local initiatives undertaken to commemorate World Pharmacists Day, which this year was celebrated on September 25 together with the International Pharmaceutical Federation.

The events consisted of an outreach programme by University pharmacy students who visited various localities including Birkirkara, Vittoriosa, Sliema, Valletta and Żejtun to create more awareness on the importance of pharmacists as accessible, trusted and valued healthcare professionals, who help in achieving better health outcomes, improving patient safety and overall quality of life.

An information leaflet, outlining the various roles of the pharmacist was also disseminated in line with the theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day: Pharmacists – simplifying your medicines use, no matter how complex. A self-administered questionnaire was also distributed to gather feedback from the public with regard to services they wish pharmacists to provide.

Pharmacists provide professional services in different sectors of pharmacy, ranging from the development and manufacture of medicines, to ensuring patient safety during distribution and use of medicines. By commemorating World Pharmacists Day, pharmacists worldwide highlighted the focus of their activities for patients and consumers.

Through the activities held in Malta, pharmacy students, pharmacists and the Department of Pharmacy reached out to the public to emphasise the professional services of pharmacists in ensuring safe use of medicines. Having pharmacy students actively participating in this event was very encouraging as this gave these future pharmacists their first essential contact with future patients and consumers.

This event was organised through collaboration between the University’s Department of Pharmacy, the Malta Pharmaceutical Student Association, (MPSA) and the Malta Pharmaceutical Association (MPhA). Actavis supported this initiative as the main sponsor of the event.
