British High Commissioner Robert Luke and his wife Louise recently hosted members, staff and volunteers of the English-Speaking Union of Malta to a reception at their residence in San Pawl tat-Tarġa.
Mr Luke commented on how the ESU Malta encouraged the use of the English language locally, especially in areas where it is hardly spoken, and this compliments his mission in Malta.
He paid tribute to all those on the front line, including teachers, school management and volunteers, who work to improve the lives of youths.
ESU chairman John de Giorgio thanked Mr Luke and his wife for their hospitality before giving those present an update of the latest work being done at the ESU.
He explained the objective behind the research, which is soon to be undertaken on the Arm of Support project, and the organisation’s wish to have such a programme, where English is introduced to very young students through play, run nationwide over the coming years.
