Citroen has upgraded and thinly disguised a DS3 Cabrio and revealed it as the DS3 Cabrio Racing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The company insists that the 202 bhp ‘concept’ is exactly that, and pending consumer response between now and its appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September they will give no further word onits fate.

Essentially, there is little to stop this being a production model. Bigger brakes, wheels and a body kit have all been applied, but in reality this is simply Citroen testing public opinion for a potential future model at the earliest opportunityit had.

The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine is the same THP unit that the DS3 Cabrio is already available with, but with ECU changes and a larger turbo.

Typically extravagant DS3 detailing can be seen on the roof and upholstery, the latter of which is wrapped around sporty bucket seats – almost certain to be switched for less extreme ones if the car ever makes production.

A unique touch is a child seat made to match the rest of the upholstery. Why ruin the interior look with a gaudy one from the high street?
