Malta’s leading role in the maritime industry was further consolidated during Transport Malta’s participation at the bi-annual Nor-Shipping 2013, one of the world’s leading maritime events, held in Oslo last week.

Exhibiting with a stand branded as Maritime Malta, TM, through its Merchant Shipping Directorate, provided the local maritime and industry service providers with a promotional platform to showcase Maritime Malta as an international maritime service centre.

During the week-long maritime events in Norway, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi, with authority chairman James Piscopo and officials from the Merchant Shipping Directorate, participated at a conference dealing with the recent developments experienced in the offshore industry, mainly in the oil exploration sector.

TM’s participation is one of its initiatives to strengthen its efforts to attract Norwegian ship-owners to the Malta register, which represents an important market share of this emerging market. The Norwegian shipping accounts for substantial amount of vessels and tonnage registered under the Malta Flag.

Mr Mizzi said Malta intends to further build upon the success achieved over the past years in the maritime industry.
