How would you describe Corradino Correctional Facility?

I consider this correctional service as a conventional solution that is in need of vital restructuring. Times change, people change, and so should the correctional services. I believe that remaining conservative on this matter could lead to an inefficient service into which more and more money would have to be injected with little or no results. Steve Decelis, 22, Mcast Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing).

I think this facility should come down heavier on individuals who break the law. Criminals must be made to hate the idea of being incarcerated so that it serves as an effective deterrent to committing other crimes. Walton Frendo, 24, Mcast Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing).

CCF is a rehabilitation centre for people who have committed injustice and broken the law. We refer to it as prison, which seems to stress more the punishment one has to endure, but the most important thing is for the person to reform to be able to integrate in society again in a decent, normal manner. Jessica Pace, 23, Bachelor of Laws, 3rd year.

What is the main cause for repeat offences?

The inability of the correctional facilities to rehabilitate the offender is the core of the problem. It is not an easy task to completely rehabilitate a person. A correctional facility must first determine the root of the problem, take the adequate actions to produce the change needed, and finally monitor whether or not the targets have been successfully met. Steve Decelis

I would say this is caused by lack of education and positive experiences at the correctional facility. The experience at the facility should be such that once prisoners serve their sentence, they would never wish to go through it again.

However, this should be done without violating the individual’s human rights. Walton Frendo

The main cause for repeated offence is either ignorance of the law, which is not excusable under our system, or the person might have not reformed in the way they should have. Jessica Pace

What do you think about the new Rehabilitation in Society programme?

I agree with the programme’s aim, despite the difficulties and issues that will certainly persist in the near future.

Change is good, only if it does not lead to regression. Steve Decelis

I agree with the programme as long as the employers support the participants after they serve their prison sentence. Walton Frendo

The programme aims to strike a balance in the life of prisoners and encourages them to reform their behaviour for their own benefit and for the well-being of society at large. Jessica Pace
