A red-legged Seriema has recovered from a bout of stage fright.

The exotic bird, which is native to South America, arrived at Blair Drummond Safari Park in Stirling last year but last week marked its first public display.

The bird hunts snakes, lizards, frogs, young birds and rodents and also eats small amounts of plant food such as maize.

Seriemas are known for their call, which sounds like a mix between a barking puppy and the clucking of a turkey.

They prefer to jump rather than fly and can reach speeds of up to 15mph making them similar to Roadrunners.

They are one of few species of birds that can kill poisonous snakes. In the picture, the Seriema is seen fiddling with a rubber snake at Blair Drummond Safari Park. (AP)

Suspect flees police, goes straight to jail

A clueless suspect fled from police in Clayton, Missouri – straight into county police headquarters, the New York Post reports.

Officers could only laugh as the man ran around before hitting a dead end at the holding cells and surrendered.

“It looked like he was cutting out the middleman and going straight to the jail,” an officer said. The man was fleeing a routine police traffic stop. (PA)

Biggest Burmese python is beheaded

The biggest Burmese python in the world measuring 18ft 8in has been killed after it attacked a passer-by in Florida.

The monster was sticking out of undergrowth and blocking a road when motorist Jason Lyon tried to move it. It quickly coiled round his leg and the 23-year-old then realised how big the 128lb constrictor was, according to The Sun.

His friends jumped out of the car and decapitated the snake with a knife.

The previous biggest python was 17ft 7in, which was also caught in Florida. (PA)

Housewives make indecent proposals

Electricians are most likely to be seduced by housewives, a new poll has claimed.

A poll of more than 2,000 tradesmen reckons that more than a fifth had received “indecent proposals” while on the job and 54 per cent had taken customers up on their “offer”.

The Grime Boss Heavy Duty Hand Wipes survey said housewives had attempted to seduce 29 per cent of electricians, ahead of gas fitters (27 per cent) and builders (25 per cent).

Four out of ten tradesmen admitted providing cheaper quotes to attractive women. (PA)
