The European Commission is seeking clarifications from the Government on adjustments to the spring hunting regulations, as almost 10,000 hunters hit the countryside today when the season opens.

The Government has so far retained limits set by the previous administration on the number of birds hunted and the time during which hunters can practise their hobby.

But the €50 fee for a spring licence and the obligation on hunters to wear a special armband have been eliminated.

FKNK SAYS IT WILL NOT TOLERATE ILLEGALITIES

Meanwhile, the Federation for Hunting & Conservation (FKNK) warned its members that illegalities during the Spring open season will not be tolerated.

It said it has appointed field marshals who will survey the whole of Malta and Gozo and will report any illegalities to the police. Any FKNK member may also anonymously make such reports on the specially designated police telephone number: 119. This number  may also be used by the public.
