Dogs used at the prisons to detect prohibited items being taken into the facility were actually being fed by the prisoners, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia said this morning.

Speaking on TVM, he said that while the dogs had to be fed, the feeding should be fed by the wardens, because of the security risks.

He also said that a metal detector was not working most of the time and had become part of the prison furniture.

He said the Cabinet is considering but has not taken a decision on whether or not to grant an amnesty to mark the change of government after the general election.
