Labour leader Joseph Muscat has promised all things to all men. However there is one thing that he has not promised to do (probably through an oversight), and that is to restore the Opera House to its former glory or at least to roof over the ruins.

Think of how grateful those thousands of opera lovers, theatre buffs and culture vultures who regularly attend every ballet performance, concert and play and pack the Manoel Theatre to the rafters would be.

The entire membership of Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar would vote Labour. Kenneth Zammit Tabona and Astrid Vella would vote Labour. The new middle class, whose ancestors, as Daphne Caruana Galizia rightly pointed out, did not belong to the class that would have been allowed inside the Opera House in its heyday, would vote Labour.

Dr Muscat should go for it. It’s a winner. It will pull in the votes like his pledge to reduce electricity and eventually also water rates.
