Air Baltic will introduce weekly flights between Malta and Riga in May, the airline has announced.

It will depart Riga on Saturdays and leave Malta early on Sunday mornings.

As well as providing a direct link to the Latvian capital, the route opens up connections in the Baltics, Scandinavia and Russia to Maltese travellers.

One-way tickets will start from €85. New airline routes revealed this week mean next year could be another record for tourism, the Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) said yesterday.

Ryanair has announced it will add Milan, Liverpool and Gothenburg to its Malta schedule from March.

The association said it was also encouraged that Air Malta’s recent winter sale had boosted sales.
