Melita and Rabat Ajax gave life to a drab encounter at the Tedesco Stadium as the two relegation strugglers cancelled each other in a goalless draw.

It was a poor performance from the two sides currently occupying the bottom two places as they were guilty of producing a lacklustre display full of astray passes and little flair in the last third of the pitch and it was no surprise that at the end of the 90 minutes they had to settle with a point apiece.

The first half failed to produce any decent scoring opportunities with the best chance falling to Rabat eight minutes from the break when David Azzopardi won possession inside the area but his fierce drive hit the sidenetting.

The match failed to improve after the restart with both teams struggling to create decent opportunities.

Rabat’s best chance fell to Joseph Caruana on 63 minutes when his long-range drive was blocked by Melita goalkeeper Matthew Sapiano.

Melita on their part could have won it late on but Manwel Sierra Camacho headed over from routine distance following a Tobias Terpougoff corner kick.

Rabat’s David Azzopardi was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
