Żurrieq Wolves Athletic Club have just held another successful edition of their 10k night run, this year sponsored by Festina Watches.

The race was held at a traffic-free Mdina Road, Żebbuġ, and at the gathering point there were 90 run-ners, including some foreigners, ready for competition.

Jonathan Balzan was the first to enter the gantry in 34:37. Andrew G. Grech was second and Antoine Abela third in the men’s race.

The women’s 10k was won by Caroline Aehling in 37:32, a record for the race. The German was ahead of Doreen Camilleri and Charmaine Aquilina in that order.

Daniel Agius, representative for Festina Watches in Malta, and club president Wilfred Sammut presented trophies and gifts to the winners.

In category placings, Cedric Pisani and Caroline Ciappara were first in the over 35 section and John Rapinett and Simone Magri (over 40), Noel Spiteri (over 45), Pawlu Camilleri and Anna Bugeja (over 50), Mario Farrugia and Mary Ciantar (over 55), and Alfredo DeMarco (over 60) were the other respective bracket win-ners on the night.

During the same event, 13-year-old Stefano Pace Parascandolo ran an 8km distance in aid of Puttinu Cares. Those wishing to support this young athlete in his noble cause may send a donation of €6.99 via SMS (5061-8929) until the end of August.

The organising committee will also donate 20 per cent of the proceeds from race registration to Puttinu Cares.
