Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow is joining the stage show of War of the Worlds.

The Scottish star has signed up for the touring musical − The War of the Worlds: The New Generation − as The Voice of Humanity.

The show is based on the hit album created by Jeff Wayne in the late 1970s and later adapted for the stage.

Cast members previously announced include Jason Donovan as Parson Nathaniel, Kerry Ellis, who starred in We Will Rock You and Wicked, as his wife Beth, and Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson in the role of The Artilleryman.

Hollywood star Liam Neeson is taking the narrator role originally created by the late Richard Burton.

Mr Neeson will appear as a 3D hologram in the show, based on HG Wells’s story about an invasion from Mars led by Tripods. Mr Pellow said of the show: “It delivers so much more to the original fans and will massively inspire new ones.”

The tour opens in Dublin on November 29, before moving to 15 dates in England, Scotland and Wales.
