Mita, the government's IT agency, is investigating a disruption in government internet traffic this morning.

It said in a statement that government websites and eGovernment services were disrupted just before 10 a.m. with some internal government sites also experiencing connectivity issues.

The Malta Information Technology Agency said that although investigations were still underway, preliminary tests showed that the disruption was caused by a technical fault in some of the main third-party fibre connections used by the government.

Mita took immediate action to reroute the impacted traffic onto alternative connections and government websites and eGovernment services are returning online.
