In the last weekend of national competitions at Tal-Qroqq, La Salle HC won the men’s and women’s knock-out titles after beating rivals Aloysians in both instances.
The two successes meant that La Salle clinched the triple crown in the two categories as the men’s team also completed the season without a single defeat.
The women’s final was a thrilling affair with the outcome decided in the very last few seconds of the contest.
In fact, with less than two minutes on the clock, La Salle Trendi led by one goal but were with a player less following a two-minute suspension.
With Aloysians trying hard to force extra-time, it was La Salle who managed to inflict the deadly blow as Bernadette Vassallo scored from a fast break five seconds from time to win the match for her team.
In the men’s final, La Salle ZT Developments took matters in hand from the early stages with a solid all-round performance.
With the addition of guest player Krisztian Olschleger, they had more flair in attack as the Hungarian was a constant threat to the opponents’ defence.
Following two perfect lobbed shots by Ian Turban from the wing, and some providential saves by John Scicluna, La Salle marched on to victory.
