Michael Briguglio, chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika, this afternoon welcomed the result achieved by his party in Saturday’s local election.

Mr Briguglio was elected to the Sliema council while Ralph Cassar was re-elected to Attard council.

Mr Briguglio in comments at Naxxar counting hall, said AD fielded candidates in 10 localities and got an average of 4.5% of the vote, a result which the other parties could not dismiss, he said.

He expressed disappointment that the party’s candidates were not elected in Swieqi and Munxar, with AD winning 8.9% in the latter.

Mr Briguglio said AD’s councillors would work to serve as a bridge between the two major parties and they would also work to ensure that the councils served the residents, and not other people with different interests, such as contractors and speculators.

“The result we achieved on Saturday is a great encouragement for us for the general election,” he said.
