A total of 19,372 people travelled out of Malta in January, 5.6 per cent less than in the same month last year.
The National Statistics Office said 16,626 were trips to EU countries.
Both EU and non-EU markets registered decreases of three and 17 per cent, respectively. The UK and Italy remained the two most popular tourism destinations, and shared between them 66 per cent of the total outbound tourism market.
There were drops in the number of trips to Germany and Italy, while trips to the UK and France exhibited upward movements.
