I totally agree with Tony C. Cutajar (More eBooks In Maltese, Please, February 14) that we need to have more Maltese eBooks out there. One of the problems that prospective Maltese authors might face is a technical one, in that the primary format used by Kindle and many other eReaders does not support the Maltese alphabet. There are other workarounds, however, and as Mr Cutajar has shown with his publications, it is not impossible. I wish him the best of luck with future publications.

I have just published my own first eBook for children in Maltese, called Żarbun Imsaħħar, which is available online at www.lulu.com. Budding readers can sample the first few pages of the book on a complimentary basis.

One needs to face the reality that eReaders and the new technology that is around us is the lifestyle that most of our children and future generations face nowadays. It would be artistically suicidal for writers not to consider this media and simply rule it out as a fad. I would like my publication to be one of a series and, in fact, I’m already working on some other titles. I hope this project will encourage young people to keep reading – to keep reading Maltese – and writers, both established and new, to take the plunge.
