Two local council mayors facing court charges have announced they will not be contesting the upcoming local council elections.

San Lawrenz mayor Noel Formosa and Żebbuġ, Gozo mayor Carmelo Saliba have informed Nationalist Party general secretary Paul Borg Olivier of their intention. Mr Formosa is one of six local councillors currently facing charges of fraud in relation to air travel expenses. Mr Saliba is embroiled in two court cases, one concerning allegations of illegal dumping and the other alleging improper use of a local council laptop.
