Megrahi insists he never met Sliema shopkeeper who testified against him in Lockerbie trial
Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al Megrahi has told British newspapers that he never met the Maltese shopkeeper who identified him in the trial which led to his conviction.
Looking frail, the bed ridden former intelligence officer gave an interview a few days before the 23rd anniversary of the downing of the Pan Am Boeing 747 over the Scottish village of Lockerbie, killing 270.
His conviction hinged on the testimony of a Sliema shopkeeper, Tony Gauci, who identified Megrahi as the person who bought clothes which were found in the suitcase where the bomb was placed.
Megrahi continued to insist that he is innocent and urged his supporters to clear his name.

I cannot understand how a person at the end of his days, can close his eyes for ever and die in peace when he knows that because of him, other people had to live in hell because of his revelations or the lack of them. It is not only for Mr Megrahi but I can mention the murders of Cardona, Karen Grech, Raymond Caruana and others.

i canot tell what really happened but one cannot ever be convicted simply on evidence of one single man who was treated as a king by scottish police and god knows what next, however libya had something to do with it because a person like gaddafi will have never paid all that money to relatives of the victims if he had no connection

`however libya had something to do with it because a person like gaddafi will have never paid all that money to relatives of the victims if he had no connection`
Perhaps the embargo was costing Libya a lot more than just accepting to pay compensation, but not actually admitting to the bombing itself.

IF this is true (and there are indications it is because even a father of one of the victims has such claims) shouldn't the maltese authorities together with the scottish gov extradict Gqauchi and make him pay the price for his lies and conficate his wealth?

Of course he's innocent. The real criminal here is the US government, with their sanctioning of "cash for justice" programme that is nothing more than encouragement to commit perjury.

I presume you are Maltese. Should we believe you?
I cannot vouch for Mr Gauci'scredibility, but your statement condemning all Maltese is simply ridiculous.

@ Evarist Saliba
If you make a critical examination of your conscience can I believe a Maltese citizen like you? Yes I take the Maltese with a pinch of salt because I suffered through the big lies that the Maltese can say to destroy other Maltese to achieve their evil ends. During the French it is recorded that the Maltese were Jacobins and today they are assassins ready to harm anybody that come to their way. Your PN party that now you support is one of them. It is a government build on lies and those who side with them for me they are liars and very difficult to believe their hatred.
