In July 1993, we saw the birth of the youth within the Our Lady of Lilies Musical Society of Mqabba, with the aim to help out in the organisation of the feast of Our Lady of Lilies which is celebrated in June. Since then the youth section has integrated itself into the socio-cultural life of the village providing a wide range of activities and other initiatives organised on a regular basis.

Is-Salib tal-Fidda is the most recent event. The Our Lady of Lilies Youth Section staged the tragic love story of Xandru and Rożina, the characters in the classic Maltese novel, a real tear-jerker by Fr Wistin Born. It was adapted for the stage by Fredrick Camilleri. Directed by Ina Robinich, original music by Dominic Cini and the production of the Our Lady of Lilies Youth Section, it revolved around the lives of Xandru and Rożina, two lovers who came from different walks of life – one a rich but unspoiled town girl who lived with her father, the other a young fisherman who eventually became an orphan.

A big “well done” must go to the cast who managed to convey the real sense of such a demanding script.

The committee would like to thank all those who helped in the organisation of this event, from the stage constructors to the actors and make-up artist. Without their help, this event wouldn’t have turned into such a great success.
