Air Malta said today that its office in Tripoli will reopen tomorrow, but it does not yet known when its daily flights to the Libyan capital will resume.

The airline also announced that it has been granted rights for a twice weekly flight to Benghazi. A general sales agent will open in Benghazi tomorrow.

The airline did not say when its Benghazi flights will start, but said that it was important that visas were also issued from Benghazi, thus making the service viable. Visas are currently only issued in Tripoli.

"The airline is closely working with the Maltese Government and Libyan officials with a view to restart and facilitate travel arrangements as soon as possible now that traffic rights for both cities have been granted," the airline said.

Flights over Libya are currently restricted owing to the UN-imposed no-fly zone.
