Maypole is investing €7 million in a new bakery at the Handaq Industrial Estate in Qormi.

€2.8 million are being invested in the building, which is spread over 3,000 square metres. Some of the funds are being provided through ERDF .

Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, who visited the company this afternoon, said that the investment will help the company improve efficiency and product quality and would also help it seek new markets.

The company currently employs 120 people – including 50 in its four shops. It also has a franchise with another six shops generating employment for another 60 people.

Maypole plans to open another five shops by 2013, further increasing employment.
