Mgr Mario Grech.

Gozo bishop Mgr Mario Grech has donated €4,000 each to Mgr Sylvester Magro, Apostolic Vicar of Benghazi and Mgr Giovanni Martinelli, Bishop of Tripoli.

He said the donations were an expression of the closeness which the Catholic community of Gozo felt with the Church in Libya in these difficult times, and he promised prayers for peace.

The donation Mgr Magro was made personally when Mgr Magro took part in celebrations in Nadur to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul this evening.

Mgr Magro in a short address expressed his gratitude to the people of Gozo for their solidarity with the community in Libya.

The money was raised in a special collection during Lent.

Mgr Grech also announced another donation, of €6,500, to the Coadjutor Bishop of Juticalpa, Honduras, Mgr Joe Bonello OFM.

Mgr Bonello is from Xaghra, Gozo. He was appointed Bishop last February.

Oh Shall I put my hand on my chest and rest my heart for that? Would it not be more appropiate for the Bishop of Gozo to call it a day and try to save precious monies by amalgamating the Gozo Diocese with that of Malta in the first place. That would save a lot of finance by reducing duplicate curias with all their functionaries in a place where the distance from one tip to another does not exceed twenty five miles. I deem that a bigger share would have been available to the mentioned Bishops abroad instead of the paltry sum mentioned. Or am I verging on the heretical? Am I threading unstable ground?
