MPs will take their final vote on the Divorce Bill on July 25, the House Business Committee decided today.

The debate on second reading is due to start next week and will be completed on July 13.

The Bill will then be considered clause by clause in the Committee for the Consideration of Bills. However, whereas it had been previously decided that committee sittings would continue through the summer if necessary, the committee agreed today that the debate will be concluded by July 25, when the Bill will be given a third reading.

In a break with usual procedure, it was also agreed that MPs who wish to move amendments in the committee stage will circulate the amendments  well in advance among MPs.

All MPs, and not just the regular committee members, will be able to participate in the proceedings of the committee.
