Bent on seeking revenge, a pregnant 15-year-old girl admitted to the police she had been resolved in hurting a 14-year-old who was seeing her boyfriend and waited for a year and a half before she was able to attack her, a court heard yesterday.

The girl, who stands charged with trying to kill her victim, is also accused, together with her 16-year-old sister and 14-year-old cousin, of seriously injuring the 14-year-old.

Police Inspector James Grech said the argument between the girls and the victim happened on May 11 at about 8.30 p.m. in Valletta. The 15-year-old wanted to avenge herself after she found out that the father of her child had cheated on her with the victim, he said.

On the night in question, the 14-year-old met a friend, 15, in Valletta and shortly later another friend, an 18-year-old. The three girls were spotted by the 16-year-old and her 14-year-old cousin who then reported back to the 15-year-old that the victim was in Valletta, the officer recounted. At that point, the accused sent an SMS to one of the victim’s friends, the younger one, telling her she wanted to speak to her urgently. Leaving the victim alone, her two friends went to the 15-year-old’s house to speak to her.

Mr Grech said she told them she wanted to avenge herself on the victim for what she had done a year and a half ago.

In a statement, he added, the 15-year-old told the police she intended to seriously injure the girl and that she used to carry a knife with her.

The 18-year-old testified that after meeting the 15-year-old accused they went straight to the victim and informed her about what they had just been told. At that point, the victim became angry and told them she wanted to confront the other girl. The three accused suddenly appeared and began fighting with the victim. The 15-year-old accused approached the victim and stuck two fingers in her eyes and the victim pushed her away. One of the accused told the victim she should not have pushed her assailant because she was pregnant and then jumped on her and the two fought on the floor.

The case continues.

The names of the witnesses are not being published to protect the identity of the minors.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the girls.
