Heritage Malta in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo is presenting an exhibition of works by Vincent Apap from the National Collection.

This is the first exhibition dedicated entirely to Mr Apap following his demise in 2003. It shall feature works from the national collection including a recent donation to Heritage Malta by the Apap family of a number of plaster casts, bozzetti and other works that shall be shown together in this exhibition.

His oeuvre includes an outstanding list of public monuments including the Triton Fountain, City Gate, Valletta (1959); the bust of Enrico Mizzi on St John’s Square, Valletta (1964); Dante Alighieri at Floriana (1965); Mgr Gonzi at Mdina Cathedral (1971); Fr Feliciano Grech, OP, at Żabbar; Sir Paul Boffa at Castille, Valletta (1976) and George Borg Olivier at Castille (1990).

The prolific artist’s last major work, completed at the age of 89, was a bust of President Guido de Marco.

Two important exhibitions of Mr Apap’s work were organised in London, both jointly with paintings by his brother Willie. The first one was at the Commonwealth Institute in November of 1960 and the other at the Grabowsky Gallery in January of 1962.

The exhibition is curated by Heritage Malta’s curatorial team at the National Museum of Fine Arts and also includes a full-colour exhibition catalogue published by Midsea Books.

The authors are Sandro Debono, Bernadine Scicluna, Kenneth Cassar, Gabriel Pellegrini and the conservation team who worked on the conservation of the plaster casts at Heritage Malta’s Conservation Division.
