Less than a year since it was first launched, the Malta Music Memory Project (M3P) will be holding a conference at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta on Friday and Saturday.

The conference will start at 1.30 p.m. with an introduction by M3P founder Toni Sant, followed by parallel sessions. These include seminars covering technical matters with Saviour Zammit and Darren Stephens from the University of Hull, as well as intellectual property rights with lawyer Jeanine Rizzo.

There will also be a series of free workshops for introductory, intermediate and advanced levels of engagement with the M3P wiki in the atrium.

On Saturday morning, the conference will continue with an introduction by M3P Foundation directors Alex Grech and Michael Bugeja, followed by a session with Jez Collins from the Birmingham Popular Music Archive and an open workshop, with more workshops and seminars similar to Friday’s programme taking place in the afternoon.

Apart from the seminars and workshops during the day, the conference will also involve related live performances over the two evenings, with a performance by the Galea Family and Friends led by Dominic Galea at the National Archives in Rabat on Friday at 7 p.m.

Later that evening, the second edition of You Rarely Hear That on the Radio, featuring different genres of music in Maltese with Pupi Tal-Logħob, Duo Kukkanja and Ċikku l-Poplu will be held at V-Gen in Paceville from 10 p.m.

The following evening, guitarist Marc Galea will launch his debut album Easy Dialogue with a live performance with UK-based Maltese electronic duo South Central performing at Gianpula after midnight.

The M3P conference is supported in part by the Malta Arts Fund of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, as well as the University of Hull.
