253 positive tests for MRSA have been recorded since November, Health Minister Joseph Cassar said in parliament today.

He did not say if the cases were at Mater Dei Hospital or elsewhere.

Last December, it was reported that the MRSA superbug that had been lurking in Mater Dei Hospital threatening to undermine its reputation, was slowly retreating.

There were 28 MRSA infections in blood identified at Mater Dei in 2010, down from 31 cases in 2009 and the 39 identified in 2007 at St Luke’s Hospital before migrating to Mater Dei, Infection Control Committee chairman Michael Borg had said.
