Friday, January 14 has come and gone but I have no doubt that it will be etched in my memory forever. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget those throngs of people who entered my hometown ready for a protest march against diesel, gas and petrol prices, which the government of the day has plans to raise further.

If I were the Prime Minister I would undoubtedly be ashamed to see half the population against me. The massive crowd shouted in approval when Anġlu Farrugia spoke but literally roared when Joseph Muscat was addressing them. They were like lions in a den whose only hope of escape was through their beloved Joseph. Even his comments after the protest showed us the kind of man he is. I saw united people and our movement growing. This was the moment to send our signal in the form of a protest. I did not want to come to Valletta to sound out my sorrows but I wanted to be with the people so I could tell them all is not lost. With the Nationalist Party in government only 25,000 people were considered needy but with Labour in government everybody will benefit.

Having known Dr Muscat personally and his parents for a number of years I know that Salvu’s son will stand by what he stated. Salvu Muscat was like that. I am sure his son will be no different.
